winter-07-08-028.jpgwinter-07-08-051.jpgOur new pattern company, Llamas, Alpacas & Sheep, OH MY! now has its first patterns available in both stores.   It is very exciting for us to offer The Felted Nubbles Bag (left) and Felted Cabbage Rose Bag patterns as our first ones. The nubbles bag is made with Cascade 220 wool and novelties mixed in, one of them is Crystal Palace’s Nubbles yarn.  The Cabbage Rose bag is made with Kauni’s EQ yarn.  If you are interested in either of these, please call either store and we can help you.  Okoboji store is 712-332-2131 and Carroll 712-792-2890.

til next time, Happy knitting, Beth

Kauni yarns

Hi, Our Kauni yarns are here and moving out fast.  I had such a fun time knitting with it as it feels like you are using wool right from the animal (complete with a little straw like material) : ).  If you have had the chance, you know what I mean.  I made a felted purse pattern using 3 skeins of EQ, carrying 2 strands with a #8US and it worked great.  I added one round of cabbage roses and then put a ruffle on the top.  Need to line it now and decide on handles.  We are also making shawls, mittens, hats and sweaters at the shop.

Happy knitting to all of you.

Winter Knitting

That silly groundhog was right.  Winter is certainly still here.  We in western Iowa have not had the snows like you in Eastern Iowa have had but we still have the cold.  Ugh, unless you like to snuggle in a warm home with yarn beside you. I sure do and am currently making (amoung other things) Elizabeth Zimmerman’s surprise sweater.  Mine is in Amaizing, SWTC’s corn fiber, which is truely amaizing and fun to knit with.  Our Gracie needs something pink and white and purple.  We are having a class on Valentine’s day (my job besides teaching the class is to bring chocolate) and will have one in March as well.  Such a fun sweater.  Some of the people signed up are doing the adult one as well.  Can’t wait.

So happy knitting and happy valentines day to all of you.  Hope to see you soon in either of our shops.   512 N. Adams in Carroll or 1302 Hwy 71 North in Okoboji.  Carrolls hours are Mon - Sat 10-5 and Thurs till 8.  Okoboji is Wed through Sat 10-5.

TNNA

Hi, Hopefully everyone is warm and inside (if in the midwest).  The bad thing is it is cold outside, the good thing is we know how to knit or crochet!

New Namaste bags:  awesome!!!  We got in yesterday one of each color of the Malibu and Laguna and Cali clutches and I can see that I have to reorder right away.

Chris Bylsma:  Here’s some more information:  She is coming to Okoboji to give a workshop on her wonderful Crayon Box Jacket (one day class on Thursday, July 24th) and her 24/7 Jacket (one day class on Friday, July 25th).  Call the store to sign up for one or both days.  She is amazing and brings such life and fun to knitting.  I have both patterns in the store so stop in and see or call (712-792-2890 Carroll or 712-332-2131 Okoboji).  Classes are limited and will fill up fast.

Then, I found Kauni yarns, from Denmark and they should arrive in the shops in 2 weeks.  If you haven’t seen their yarns, they have the most wonderful rainbow wool yarn for just about anything, as well as their other colorways.  I had fun looking up the EURO conversion chart to see just what I was ordering. : ) Can’t wait to start my rainbow sweater!!!!!

So, till next time.  Happy knitting and crocheting, Beth

ps, sorry about the font from the first blog.  I had to get out my magnifying glass to read it so hopefully, this is better!!!

We’re LIVE

Hi everyone.  I just acquired the knowledge I needed to begin a blog  (Believe me, knitting is so much easier.)  so here goes.

My plan is to write at least once a week and possible more as new things happen at The Yarn Basket, both in Carroll (712-792-2890) and Okoboji (712-332-2131).  Just got back from market in sunny LA and what’s new?  Namaste bags, flat feet sock yarn, signing Chris Bylsma to give a retreat at the lake, and all the new yarns that we love to knit and crochet so please stop in.

Chris Bylsma is coming to Okoboji on July 23rd and 24th for Crayon Box Jacket on Thursday and another class on Friday tba.  We can take 25 students each day, so if you are interested, please contact us soon so we can get you registered.  Sign up for one or both days.

Our preferred member program is available now.  For $20, you receive a tote bag, tape measure, 5% off all purchases in 2008, 20% storewide the 5th Saturdays of the month and 1/2 off all classes (sorry, retreats not included).

Winter Games at the Lake, this next weekend, we will be open both Sat 10-5 and Sunday 12-4.  Hope to see you and your friends.  Til then, happy knitting, Beth
