February
2008: Thanks for checking in with us. Both our
stores are excited about the upcoming classes, new yarns and seeing
all of you at either shop. So what's new???
Products: Here's what excited us at Market in warm Long
Beach, California. Namaste came out with 3 new products.
Two bags, Malibu and Laguna, have coordinating cali clutches and
come in 6 colors. Even if you don't knit (aghast) or know
someone who doesn't, these bags would make great purses,
too. In yarns, we are adding Flat Feet. The skein
on this sock yarn is like a piece of cloth and you unravel it as you
knit. Quite novel and packs well. It should be arriving
at the shops the end of February. We are making a model of the
wonderful Flaming Fans Mitten out of it to show you. Also, not
picked up at market but sooooo... exciting is Kouni yarns from
Denmark. They should be here soon and we have a model of the
Rainbow sweater coming with the yarns. So stop or call and check
these out as well as all our other great supplies.
Chris Bylsma: Coming to Okoboji July 24th and 25th for
workshops is the wonderful Chris Bylsma and her famous Crayon Box
Jacket for Thursday and Stashology for Friday. If you have
ever had the opportunity to meet Chris, you will know how delightful
and fun her classes are. She will show us the construction of
the Crayon Box Jacket and then help each of us choose yarn to either
go with some of our stash or start new so we can get started that
day. On Friday, her Stashology class shows how to use what you
have to create beautiful garments. You will get to choose one
of a number of patterns to put that stash to great use. Both
classes are limited to 30 people so if you are thinking of coming,
call the shop to sign up. Cost is $95 per day which includes
lunch and a gift bag with lots of goodies. You
definitely won't be disappointed in either class. Choose one
or sign up for both.
Classes: Please check out our class list as we update it as often as we can.
This week we are doing Elizabeth Zimmermann's surprise sweater and
will repeat it both at the lake and in Carroll. You can make a
sweater without having to do any seams in sizes from infant to
adult. Other classes are also on the calendar and more are being
added often. We would love to take requests, too, so if there
is something you want to learn, please let us know.
Preferred Customer: In January, we started a new program to thank all of you who shop frequently with us.
As a Preferred Customer, you receive a free tote bag, tape measure and 5% off all purchases during the 2008 shopping year.
Plus, half off all classes (sorry, not retreats or Chris Bylsma)
held at the shops and on the months that have 5 Saturdays, you will
get to shop and receive 20% off storewide. You do need to be
in attendance to get that discount. Stop in or call to see how you can join.
Staff: We have added Heather to our great staff.
She comes from Des Moines and works 2 Saturdays a month in the
Carroll shop. If you haven't had the opportunity to meet her,
stop in and tell her hello. She is energetic, knows knitting
and loves yarn, just like the rest of us.
And as always, I want to thank all my wonderful staff at The Yarn
Baskets and all of you who help make our shops as wonderful as they
are. If you have any suggestions for any of us, Carole, Christy
and Heather in Carroll and Jane, Suzanne, and Alisha in Okoboji,
please let us know. We want your knitting and crocheting to be
total enjoyment. Hope to see you soon.
Happy knitting, Beth
